Osawonrin: Ifa on Cooperation
(Osa on the right, Owonrin on the left)
A Translation
I run swiftly till
I got to the Palace of Alara
I jog smartly till
I got to the Palace of Ajero
I run and jog on till
I got to the Palace of Owaragun Aga.
ii.
I was asked what’s after me
I said it’s the ajogun (elves) from Laasigbo Hills
I was advised to add two to three and
Consult the Diviner at the Palace of Alara
I was advised to add two to three and
Consult the Diviner at the Palace of Ajero
I was advised to add two to three and
Consult the Diviner at the Palace of Owaragun Aga.
iii.
I added two to three and
Consulted the Diviner of Alara
I added two to three and
Consulted the Diviner of Ajero
I added two to three and
Consulted the Diviner of Owaragun Aga
The three of them consulted Ifa
On behalf of Baba Orun
When his affairs were unsettled and
He was being troubled by elves
His household was in turmoil
His compound was in disarray
His inner chambers were in tatters
His whole being was in garboil.
iv.
Baba was asked to call on neighbours
Call on visitors
Call on males
Call on females
Call on the youth
Call on the aged to
Arm themselves with hoes
Arm themselves with cutlasses
Arm themselves with Olugbongbo, the king of mallets and
Head for Laasigbo Hills to
Confront the elves.
v.
Baba Orun mobilised neighbours
He mobilised visitors
He mobilised the males
He mobilised the females
He mobilised the youth
He mobilised the aged and
Armed them with hoes
Armed with cutlasses
Armed with Olugbongbo the king of mallets
They march towards Laasigbo Hills to
Confront the elves with
Osa and Owonrin in the lead
(on seeing this crowd),
The elves clung on to Laasigbo (for protection)
Laasigbo raised a sorrowful cry onto Eledua (GOD)
Eledua moved Laasigbo to safety
Both the Hills and the spirits hiding behind them.
vi.
Baba Orun conquered elves
He scaled the obstructions of the Hills
Neighbours feel at ease
Visitors were at peace
The males were joyful
The females rejoice
The young ones were excited
The aged relaxed
His household became calm
His compound came together (once again)
His inner chambers were re-arranged
His whole being experienced peace
Rats behave like rats
Birds happily chirp away
Man displays his humanity.
vii.
When the affairs of Ila were finally settled
Baba Orun praises the Diviners
The Diviners praise Ifa
Ifa praises Eledua, the Lord of Heaven and Earth
They all rejoice heartily chanting:
“with what did Baba Orun overcame all obstacles?
Cooperation, cooperation was Baba Orun’s aid, cooperation etc”

NOTES:
Alara, Ajero and Owaragun Aga are the title of kings of ancient towns where Orunmila, God of Divinity, had resided and left his trusted students.
Baba Orun refers to Orunmila in disguise consulting to teach humanity while Ila was his current abode at the time.
Ajogun are little challenges hiding behind large calamities, Laasigbo.
